Divine Mercy Academy is a K-8 school, currently located in Pasadena, MD that utilizes the Catholic Liberal Education model to create Saints and Scholars. Our purpose is to know, love, and serve God and to form others so they might joyfully do the same.

 

Divine Mercy Academy is seeking a Lower School Instructional Assistant for the 2024-2025 academic year. The ideal candidate will possess a deep love for Jesus Christ and His Church, a desire to participate in the renaissance of Catholic education, and a commitment to raising up the next generation of saints and scholars.

Job Description: Instructional Assistant

  • Collaborate directly with the lead teacher to facilitate instruction
  • Expected to be willing and able to manage small-group learning breakouts, classroom management, and, when needed, one-on-one student support
  • Manage the class by setting clear expectations of behavior, establishing reasonable routines, and promoting self-discipline based on Catholic principles.
  • Teach students in a challenging, enthusiastic and age-appropriate manner using the classical model.
  • Complete any classroom based administrative duties in a timely and effective manner
  • Apply Catholic moral principles in cooperating with the lead teacher and, if necessary, school administration regarding behavior and disciplinary matters
  • Assure that all classroom equipment and materials are safe and well-maintained.
  • Stay current on the best practices in education and teaching, particularly with regard to classical education, in order to provide academic excellence. Participate in continuing education in
  • Classical topics over the course of the year, especially in the summer.
  • Attend Tutor Meetings and/or other required meetings and events which may occur outside of normal school hours.

  • Lead students to an understanding and an appreciation of all that is good, beautiful, and true.
  • Relate to students by loving them with the love of Christ, encouraging them to begin and/or develop their own relationship with God through sacraments and scripture, and challenging them to love others.
  • Be a role model of Christian love, faith, truthfulness and virtue.
  • Serve as an advocate for Divine Mercy Academy, as well as classical education, in the local community.
  • Respond expediently to parent, student, or administrator concerns and ideas.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to be trained in classical educational methods.
  • Be willing to cooperate with and support the policies of the school administration
  • Be passionate about educating children in a Catholic environment, and about the grade/subject to be taught. Experience is preferred but not required.
  • Be willing to work closely with parents in the education of their children.
  • Be committed to academic excellence.
  • Be committed to continuing, life-long learning.
